The heat treatment of wood
With our own heat treatment unit, we are able to propose :

  • The workmanship only of heat treatment
  • The complete supply of finished product (liner, various profils, decking…)

 The method
STABILWOOD ® the ecological timber.
STABILWOOD ® is thermal modified wood, heat treated at 180°C to 230°C by the STABILPROCESS ® method. During this process of heat treatment the temperature is increased progressively followed by cooling down. The controlled atmosphere in the furnace exchanges heat with the wood-load to be treated.
The STABILPROCESS ® method respects the environment and doesn’t use or introduce any chemical product. (neither steam nor nitrogen)

The perfect heat and atmosphere control modifies the molecular compounts in the cell walls such as hemicelluloses, celluloses and lignins. Untreated wood has hydrophilic properties. When we modify its compounts it will absorb less water. Hence the wood becomes stable and restistant against rot fungi.
Due to the cracking of sugar-related moleculs, wood eating insects will not found food anymore.

In many cases, STABILWOOD ® can replace chemical treated wood or tropical timbers for indoor and outdoor use. Our wood can be used in hazard class 3 or 4 (EN 335) and correponds with durability class 1 or 2 according EN350-2.

The main properties of STABILWOOD ® are:

  • the biological resistance
  • darker attractif color
  • the dimensional stability
  • the homogeneity of the treatment
  • low moisture absorption
  • reproductible & full section treatment

The fields of applications are amongst others:

  • outside liners
  • outside deck floor
  • garden features
  • indoor parquet floors
  • furniture
  • and a lot more…

The upgrading of local wood with poor qualities in natural condition (Poplar, Hornbeam…) can substitute tropical timbers which is very favourable for the sustainable development of our planet.
Recycling of STABILWOOD ® can be done without any impact for health or nature while there is no added substance in the wood. It could be burned for heat generation (house) or energy generation (power plant).
