Could you tell us about the present tunnel offering at Sotralentz Construction?
We make welded wire mesh and reinforcements for so-called traditional tunnels or with pre-cast segments. In the case of the traditional tunnel, we supply the welded wire mesh laid or not.
Why is Sotralentz putting into place a complete tunnel package?
First of all to exploit our various trades. Big public works companies have evolved and are now oriented towards more financial engineering and less towards actual manufacturing. They are changing towards 100% service. Today, they prefer to build engineering structures as concessions: Socatop, the Millau viaduct, car parks etc. Certain neglected sectors therefore have to be reorganized.
What are Sotralentz's strengths to manage this change in direction?
Our strengths are on the one hand structural, our size and the European scale of our group mean that we are a partner who can handle the major public works markets; and on the other hand, the main players principally consist of individual and highly-specialized small- and medium-sized firms, so we can play a unifying and stabilizing role for them.
Are the market players ready to evolve towards another source of supply?
Every day we are building our legitimacy through our work sites, the way we listen to our clients and partners and respect their needs, so our tunnel package deal is imposing itself little by little. Our teams consist of sales engineers who have overall knowledge of the sector and they work regularly on international work sites. They have the skills to come up with technical solutions that help to win new markets: it is a partnership that is appreciated by public works specialists.
In the tunnel package deal, how much is development of the industrial tool and how much is the provision of a service?
The great flexibility of the Sotralentz Construction industrial tool plays an important role in our offering. And with our fellow division Sotralentz Industry, we can make moulds for concrete and metal pre-cast segments, thanks to its highly-specialized machines. As for the service, we are developing installation in sliding form and for the segments we can supply all the inserts and all the seals.
Do you have other transversal projects in the pipeline?
In the field of water, we are working at the moment with Sotralentz Habitat on collective and semi-collective waste water treatment. Sotralentz Construction will contribute their experience in the field of waste-water treatment plants, their market development network and their welding know-how. That is one of our most advanced projects at the moment.
