The transport of dangerous goods

The packaging is one of the main element in the chain of dangerous goods transport. Its choice is made under the responsibility of the user. The user has to make sure that the packaging meets all the regulation expectation and is adapted to the product to be transported.

The different regulations :

They are established on the basis of the UN recommendations for transport of dangerous goods. The regulations are regularly updated by the experts of the UN ( the “orange book”). Specific regulations are published for every way of forwarding :
- IMDG code for the sea transport
- RID code for railroad transport
- ADR code for road transport
- IATA regulation for air transport

For example these codes contains some information over the classification number of the dangerous goods (UN number), danger of the goods (packaging group).
These regulations give some technical specifications for the packaging in regard of the product contained.
