The articulated wind turbine |

 |
Sotralentz Métal Industries has constructed an articulated wind turbine mast prototype for the principal "La Française des Alizés".
This wind turbine, with an output of between 600 and 900 kW, is intended to produce green electricity in areas subject to cyclones (e.g. Martinique, Guadeloupe…) where wind resources (trade winds) are considerable.
The articulated mast system allows the wind turbine to be made safe when a cyclone passes. This safety procedure consists in lowering the mast and the nacelle unit, rotor and blades, closer to the ground where the equipment will suffer minimum stress in violent winds.
The advantages of this innovative internationally patented technology are of an environmental, technical and economic nature.
We can mention the following:
- Easy to make the wind turbines safe
- Contribution to regional independence in terms of energy requirements
- Exploitation of wind farms with lower maintenance costs
- Shipping and assembly with limited transport and lifting resources
- Economically viable machine
- Integration into weak, unstable and limited electricity networks
- Exploitation in areas with average and low winds with two rotor diameter options (52 and 58 metres)
The mast can currently be seen at our Drulingen site.
